Job summary

Reliability & Performance Technologies (R&P) is seeking an experienced mid-level ship deck systems test and activation engineer for a hands-on, fast-paced environment in Pascagoula, MS. The role supports hull, mechanical, electrical and mission/deck components, with a focus on grooming, troubleshooting and testing during ship construction and modernization.

Ideal candidates will have 5+ years in ship deck systems testing, knowledge of DoD requirements, and the ability to read technical manuals

Qualifications

  • Must have High School diploma or GED and at least 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow technical documentation such as work item requirements, drawings, manuals, test plans and procedures.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Willingness to travel to various locations to support ship tests, activation, and sea trials.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to qualify for DoD security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform end-to-end ship system inspection, grooming, activation and test of assigned systems.
  • Provide activation, operations, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance guidance for deck systems (hull, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic).
  • Plan and execute tests, analyze results, and report findings and recommendations.
  • Develop drawings and engineering recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Provide technical assistance with engineers and field personnel during testing campaigns.
  • Train junior engineers on test and activation procedures.

Job description

R&P is looking for an experienced mid-level ship deck systems test and activation engineer who wants to join our team. We are a small-sized defense contractor providing Engineering, Logistics, Program Management and Technical Services to government and commercial maritime clients. We need a ship deck system operator with system operation, grooming, troubleshooting, and test experience ready to join a fast-paced and exciting work environment in shipbuilding and modernization. This job is ideal for U.S. Navy veterans and U.S. Merchant Mariners (credentialed). Candidates must be comfortable with and confident in their abilities to trace, inspect, align, and operate ship deck systems in a demanding shipyard environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform complete end-to-end ship system inspection, grooming, activation, and test of assigned systems.
  • Provide activation, operations, testing, troubleshooting, and OEM suggested maintenance, support for deck systems including hull, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and other towing, salvage, and rescue mission systems. Systems and equipment include bollards, bits, chocks, capstans, watertight doors, flag hoist systems, deck cranes, anchor windlass, mooring and towing, tow winches, padeyes, lifelines, pilot ladders, and brows.
  • Plan or assist in planning tests to evaluate equipment performance; determine test requirements, equipment modification, and test procedures; conduct tests and analyze and evaluate test results; and prepare reports on findings and recommendations.
  • Conduct research to provide drawings, technical manual information, design specifications, and engineering technical recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Provide technical assistance and support on technical problems in collaboration with engineers, test engineers and field engineers working test for hull, mechanical, electrical, and mission/deck system components or equipment.
  • Paired with senior test and activation engineers, perform on-the-job training to improve test and activation knowledge, skills and abilities.
Qualifications
  • Excellent skills in ship system operations, servicing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Ship system grooming, test, and activation experience is highly preferred.
  • Must have the ability to read, understand and follow technical documentation such as work item requirements, drawings, technical manuals, test plans, and test procedures.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent physical condition with the ability to lift 50 pounds on your own.
  • Willingness to travel to various locations in support of ship test, activation, and sea trials.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Prior service in the U.S. Navy or U.S. Merchant Marines is highly preferred.
  • Must be proficient in full suite of Microsoft Office products and tools.
  • Valid secret DoD security clearance, or the ability to qualify and maintain one.
  • High School diploma or GED plus at least 5 years of relevant work experience.
