Ship Clerks play a crucial role in the Middle Mile network, responsible for managing department duties such as planning loads around standard departure times, controlling load flow, and ensuring trailer utilization. They assign job duties, provide work direction, and communicate with internal and external partners.

Ship Clerks execute standard work impacting Safety, Quality, Productivity, Utilization, and On-time Performance. Their responsibilities include load planning, load flow control, load quality, communication with upstream and downstream partners, labor allocation, leading meetings, and job duty assignment. They escalate barriers to Operations Leaders to mitigate safety and performance issues.

Key Responsibilities

1. Correspond with multiple shipping companies and contacts
2. Use shipping software to ship and track packages
3. Coordinate trailers to dock doors and cross docks using SSP
4. Troubleshoot shipping problems and errors
5. Maximize trailer utilization to control transportation costs
6. Ensure on-time dock performance
7. Assist in updating staging PODs and resource allocation
8. Oversee Load Flow Control
9. Maintain load performance tracking
10. Coordinate with Transportation on driver issues, trailer needs, yard delays, inbound volume, and load swaps
11. Understand shipping requirements, rules, and obligations
12. Ensure safety measures are in place and followed
13. Assist in training associates and verifying SOP compliance
14. Track, report, and provide feedback on associate performance
15. Participate in Operational Excellence initiatives
16. Support production duties as needed
17. Understand workflow and production goals
18. Review and update SOPs
19. Maintain a clean and organized work area
20. Identify and address safety hazards
21. Participate in safety initiatives
22. Report injuries or safety violations immediately

Basic Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience with Microsoft Office
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays
• Ability to lift up to 49 pounds and stand/walk for up to 12 hours
• Work 40 hours/week with overtime as required

Preferred Qualifications

• Training, teaching, or presentation experience
• Willingness to work different shifts and areas as needed
• Excellent attendance and organizational skills
