Job Summary

Under the direction of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Manager, the Sterile Processing Shift Supervisor oversees daily operations in the SPD department. Responsibilities include ensuring technicians are trained and adhere to departmental policies, monitoring productivity and quality, assisting with budget monitoring, and participating in planning for future needs and projects. The supervisor also assesses safety, instrument, and equipment issues, maintains professional relationships with staff, and assumes department responsibilities in the absence of the SPD Manager.

Job Requirements

• Education
• Required: High school diploma or equivalent
• Preferred: Graduate from a School of Surgical Technology

Experience

• Required: 9 months experience in SPD or Surgery
• Preferred: 2 years’ experience in SPD or Surgery

• Skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Detailed knowledge of department policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
• Proficiency with computer systems, MS Office, databases, and inventory management systems
• Ability to operate complex machinery such as washers, ultrasonic cleaners, and sterilizers
• Ability to perform multiple complex tasks competently
• Knowledge of medical terminology and instrumentation
• Ability to multitask effectively

Licensure/Certification/Registration

• Required: CRCST or CBSPD certification; CIS must be obtained within nine months of hire. CHL is preferred.
