Job summary

University of Mississippi Medical Center is seeking a Shift Supervisor – Nursing to oversee nursing staff and unit operations. You will schedule staff, ensure supplies and equipment are available, and collaborate with nurse managers to resolve area issues.

You will educate patients and families and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards while supporting the facility's mission and goals.

Qualifications

• Licensed RN with at least two years of experience in a nursing area.
• BSN degree preferred but not required for experience outweighing education.
• Strong leadership and mentoring abilities required.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

To supervise the staff and operations of nursing care for assigned areas or units. To schedule and ensure appropriate staffing. To ensure that supplies and equipment are available. To work with the nurse managers and clinical directors to resolve any issues pertaining to the assigned area or unit. To educate and consult patients and families regarding their concerns. To perform job duties in accordance with the medical center's purpose.

Education & Experience

Licensed as RN for two (2) years. Two years of RN experience in specified area preferred. BSN preferred.

Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required

Valid RN license.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of nursing procedures.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, physicians, and registered nurses.
• Knowledge and understanding of computer systems, tools, and programs.

Responsibilities

• Directs the daily operation of assigned areas or units, including but not limited to adherence to nursing standards of practice and administrative initiatives.
• Manages and organizes the nursing schedule for the assigned areas or units in accordance with approved productivity standards.
• Assists with training and mentoring new personnel.
• Supervises nursing staff on assigned units.
• Contributes to or performs evaluations of nursing staff.
• Serves on at least one nursing council, hospital or medical center committee, task force, or project team to improve patient care or work area.
• Demonstrates core standards of exceptional customer service.
