ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

URI is the oldest licensed provider of domestic violence (DV) shelter and services in New York State, and is the largest provider in the United States of DV shelter services, as well as a leading provider of shelter and services for homeless families. POSITION OVERVIEW

The Residential Shift Supervisor will provide leadership and supervision for operational staff during their assigned shift. generates work schedules and assignments for operations staff, security and maintenance personnel. Provides or arranges for shelter coverage for unscheduled absences and other unexpected situations. Provides training to new staff, ensures that operations policies and procedures are enforced at all times.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Director/SWS with work schedules and assignments for the operations staff.
  • Monitors staff and assigns tasks as necessary.
  • Communicate with DHS vacancy control for placement of families.
  • Provides appropriate crisis interventions.
  • Provides direct supervision to Residential Specialist.
  • Arranges for coverage for unscheduled absences and unexpected situations.
  • Records and responds to incidents, client issues and complaints.
  • Track client property and store in locked area as appropriate.
  • Conducts periodic tours of the entire facility to ensure safety, security and cleanliness standards are met.
  • Ensure daily census is monitored and correct; ensure Cares is updated daily.
  • Perform weekly reconciliations to ensure all Metrocards are accounted for and being distributed according to policy.
  • Supervises the delivery of program services such as intake, unit assignment and census data collection.
  • Assist with intakes of new and returning clients, and submits them for approval and assignment.
  • Keep records of safety, fire and building inspections, including fire drills.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

  • High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent
  • Bachelor Degree Preferred

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior experience in the field of safety and working with at risk adults.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and experience with and/or knowledge of homelessness within disenfranchised communities including individuals whom identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and/or HIV-affected, the elderly and individuals with substance abuse and/or mental health issues.
  • Experience working in a 24-hour residential facility, able to work with minimum supervision and as a team player.
  • Must possess good writing and communication skills.
  • Employee must be computer-literate and must have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills are required.
  • Must have ability to be flexible with schedule as needed.
