Job summary

CoreCivic is seeking a Shift Supervisor to provide disciplined supervision of the administrative and operational security activities on a designated shift in an institutional setting. You will oversee security staff and inmates/residents, ensure proper staffing, and support recruitment and staff orientation.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, at least 3 years in a criminal justice field with 2 years in a supervisory capacity, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; additional education may substitute for experience.
• Three years in a criminal justice field with two years in a supervisory capacity.
• Completion of basic pre-service correctional officer training.
• Commissioned security officer license where applicable.
• Valid driver's license required; knowledge of corrections laws and supervision principles.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise and manage operations of security staff and inmates/residents on the shift.
• Ensure adequate staffing; cover shortages as needed.
• Participate in recruiting, hiring, and orientation of staff.
• Provide recommendations on personnel matters and manage facility resources.

The Shift Supervisor provides responsible supervision of the administrative and operational security activities and staff on a specific shift in a facility.

• Directly supervise and manage operations of security staff and inmates/residents on the shift in the performance of their duties.
• Provide for adequate staffing in areas supervised; fill in as needed during periods of short staffing.
• Engage and participate in recruiting, hiring, orientating staff, and other staffing needs in areas supervised.
• Make recommendations concerning personnel matters and assist in the effective management of facility resources.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED certification or equivalent is required.
• Three years experience in a criminal justice field or other acceptable related field, which includes two years in a supervisory capacity.
• Additional education may be substituted for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Completion of basic pre-service correctional officer training and, where applicable, be a commissioned security officer licensed by the state of employment.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Must demonstrate knowledge of the practices and principles of correctional facility management; pertinent corrections laws, rules and regulations; and the principles and practices of supervision and training.
• Minimum Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
