GEO Corrections & Detentions seeks a Shift Supervisor to oversee security and detainee supervision in a busy facility. You will help develop policies, respond to incidents, and lead a team of officers to maintain safety and order.

Responsibilities

• Supervises security and detainee control activities in an assigned area.
• Develops and implements custody, security, and treatment policies.
• Responds to major incidents and provides prompt aid to detainees.
• Directs staff, including hiring, training, evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
• Ensures procedures, emergency protocols, and post orders are followed.
• Maintains daily logs and required records/reports.
• Ensures compliance with rules, regulations, and facility goals.
• Provides guidance on complex problems and detainee safety.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Summary: The Shift Supervisor supervises security/control activities and staff in an assigned area, which provides for maximum facility coordination in detainee supervision and safety, in addition to the preparation of required records and reports.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• The Shift Supervisor assists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and regulations for custody, security and/or treatment of detainees.
• Responds to major unusual occurrences. Facilitates prompt and appropriate assistance to detainees/inmates in the event of injury, illness or emotional trauma.
• The Shift Supervisor promotes an atmosphere conducive to personality and character development of detainees and staff through the encouragement of favorable behavior patterns, arrangement of physical facilities, and influencing relationships among detainees.
• Directs the work of other employees. This includes the selection, hiring, evaluating job performance, employee training/development, promoting and any disciplinary action, including termination.
• The Shift Supervisor makes assignments, reviews post orders and assures that all procedures including emergency procedures are in place and staff is trained in proper implementation.
• Reviews disciplinary matters concerning both staff and detainees.
• The Shift Supervisor reviews staff effectiveness and conducts frequent physical inspections of the facility to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
• Gives primary guidance on situational problems; making referrals for more complex problems.
• The Shift Supervisor prepares records and reports as assigned by management. Maintains daily logs as required.
• Responsible for attaining facility goals/objectives and ensuring compliance with all rules, regulations, policies and/or procedures for security operations.
• The Shift Supervisor directs work, provides training and performs inspections of work performed by detainee/inmate staff. May provide detainee supervision and security in other areas as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED certification required.
• Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience as a detention officer and two (2) years of successful experience in field supervision (e.g., civilian community law enforcement, commercial or industrial guard service, or security service supervisory positions.). The two (2) year requirement may be satisfied by completion of a career development program that includes work‑related experience, training, or college credits at a level of achievement equivalent to the basic requirement, as practiced in the federal hiring process.
• College coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences, correctional services or related field preferred.
• Must be mature, flexible, intellectually alert and able to command the respect and confidence of detainees and staff and possess a high tolerance to mental stress.
