Job summary

Piedmont Green Power, LLC operates a biomass-fired generating facility in Barnesville, Georgia, seeking a Shift Supervisor to lead daily plant operations, ensure safety, and manage on-shift personnel. Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Supervise and operate the plant safely, efficiently, and in compliance with SOPs and OSHA requirements.
• Operate Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and monitor equipment readings and tests.
• Maintain accurate operating records and logs.
• Respond to alarms promptly and coordinate with maintenance during outages.
• Assist management during shutdown events and support workforce coordination.
• Identify opportunities for training, SOP, and PM improvements.

About Piedmont Green Power:

Piedmont Green Power, LLC (“PGP”) owns a 55MW biomass-fired generating facility located in Barnesville, Georgia, approximately 70 miles southeast of Atlanta. PGP commenced operations in 2013 and sells power to Georgia Power Company, through a long‐term offtake contract. PGP utilizes approximately 500,000 tons of woody biomass annually, consisting of urban wood waste, mill, and logging residues. As of December 2023, PGP became fully owned by Pacolet Milliken, LLC.

Job Overview:

Responsible for supervising and operating the plant in a safe, environmentally sound, and efficient manner. Communicates objectives, trains, directs, and evaluates assigned personnel in accordance with company policies and government regulations. In the absence of Plant Management, the Shift Supervisor is the senior-most representative of the facility.

Schedule:

• Work hours will be rotating 12-hour shifts, typically 7:00 am to 7:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 7:00 am.
• Rotating shifts include nights, weekends, and holidays.
• On occasion, may work outside these hours to support operational needs, callouts, planned maintenance outages, and training.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Ensures the performance and record-keeping of required daily plant operations activities, including equipment readings, inspections, and testing.
• Operates Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
• Monitors systems to ensure proper operations, performing routine equipment safety checks and inspections.
• Takes measurements and readings to compare them with standards. Implements corrective actions as needed within established procedures.
• Performs routine evaluations of boiler, cooling tower, demineralizer, and RO unit water chemistry and makes necessary changes to chemical feed systems to ensure continued plant operation.
• Inspects and monitors environmental equipment and makes appropriate notifications.
• Identifies and corrects problems and reports problems requiring further action to Maintenance and writes work requests when needed.
• Maintains accurate and legible plant operating records and logs.
• Responds to alarms in a timely manner, including operating firefighting equipment as necessary and within reason.
• Assists Plant Management during shutdown events, such as assisting with the coordination and oversight of facility workforce.
• Ensures compliance with SOPs, regulations, and safety procedures, including company policies and procedures and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements. Safety procedures include, but are not limited to, lock out/tag out (LOTO), hot work, confined space, job safety analysis (JSA), and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Takes an active role in employee development, working with the Operations and Maintenance Managers.
• Oversees the work of other employees on the assigned shift as necessary.
• Performs other comparable non-operating duties during plant shutdowns.
• Maintains professional competence in the field of power plant operations.
• Maintains a safe work environment through job planning, housekeeping, and identification and correction of hazards.
• Identifies and provides feedback to management on improvement opportunities for training requirements, SOPs, PMs, etc.
• Attends all required meetings, including morning, semiannual, and mandatory company meetings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Possess close visual acuity and acuity to determine accuracy and to operate machinery, motor vehicles, and heavy equipment; ability to balance; stoop; kneel; stand; walk; perform fingering such as picking; grasp objects; talk; hear effectively; and make repetitive motions of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers; and, exert up to 20lbs of force occasionally and 10lbs. frequently.

Working Conditions:

Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions such as temperature levels below 32 degrees and above 100 degrees for more than one hour; noise levels where one may need to shout to be heard; vibrations; hazards such as moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in high places; exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, oils, and other cutting fluids; requires wearing a respirator; and work in close quarters and narrow passageways.
