Position Overview
A Shift Leader is a variable hour employee responsible for managing specific shifts in a restaurant, focusing on guest and team satisfaction, supporting initiatives, and ensuring smooth operations during peak hours. They are proficient in all team roles and can operate safely in the absence of a manager. Responsibilities vary based on restaurant needs.
Job Responsibilities
Profitability
- Ensure all food orders and specialty items follow recipes and are accurately recorded in the POS system.
- Prepare for shifts and assign team members to meet sales demands; manage waste and prep to control costs.
- Use equipment properly, troubleshoot minor issues, and report unsafe or non-working equipment. Ensure safety protocols are followed.
- Follow cash handling policies.
Guests
- Greet guests warmly and promptly; serve with friendliness and urgency.
- Ensure an exceptional experience for every guest; address issues positively.
- Inspect the restaurant environment and interact with guests to ensure satisfaction.
- Promote excellent customer service and handle complaints in the absence of higher management.
Team
- Train and develop staff according to established plans.
- Manage breaks and work limitations; ensure staff are fit for duty.
- Report employee or guest concerns immediately.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment.
Operations
- Ensure food safety and safety procedures are followed.
- Implement marketing plans and promotions.
- Monitor team interactions and provide coaching as needed.
- Handle basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Maintain food safety and operational standards.
- Communicate with management as needed.
- Supervise on-shift personnel and work front-of-house to support guest service.
Qualifications and Skills
- Must be 18+ years old.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
- Pass criminal background check.
- Basic computer skills and effective communication.
- Responsible, punctual, respectful, and energetic leadership.
- Problem-solving skills aligned with business needs.
Education and Work Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Serv Safe and Sexual Harassment Certificates required.
- Shift control training validated by management.
- External hires: 6+ months food/retail lead experience preferred.
- Experience with POS systems is a plus.
