Job summary

ABB is seeking a Production Supervisor for its Portland, TN facility. The role oversees a team within a work cell, ensuring safety, quality, OEE, and 5S adherence. Reports to Production Supervisor, onsite 1st shift.

Responsibilities include task assignment, shift handovers, inspections, data entry in Excel, and maintaining production boards. Ideal candidates have 1–3 years as a machine operator or supervisor support, strong communication skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team within a work cell to meet safety, quality, OEE, and 5S standards.

• Assign tasks based on priority and operator qualifications.
• Conduct two quality inspections per workstation and follow the control plan.
• Update production attainment boards every two hours and maintain turnover boards.

This position reports to:

Production Supervisor

Your role and responsibilities

The person in this position is responsible to support the activities of a team of employees within a work cell ensuring Safety, Quality, OEE and 5S are performed to company standards. They are responsible for motivating their team to work safely while attaining quality and productivity goals.

The work model for the role is onsite, 1st Shift. This role is contributing to the success of the ABB Installation Products, Portland, TN.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

• Safety - Toolbox Talks with employees at the start of the shift
• Assign Job Tasks to employees by priority and qualifications
• Complete Shift to Shift Sheets - Discuss with oncoming/leaving Team Leads and your Teams
• Perform 2 Quality Inspections on each workstation (and testing as required on the Control Plan)
• First Piece Inspections at Start-Ups - Responsible for getting next orders (Labels, BOM & Control Plan) following the current schedule
• Complete bar code scanning once per shift
• 5S Sustainment Sheets - Verify each workstation and Audit 2 workstations per shift
• Support Lean Methods - Motivate Teams to always use best Lean Methods
• Update Production Attainment Boards every two hours
• Keep 3-sided boards up to date during the shift (The electronic turnover should always mirror this information)
• Relieve machine operators for breaks and lunch
• Record machine efficiencies throughout the shift to enter information into Excel worksheets at the end of the shift (Use as much information as possible, explaining downtime/scrap)
• Safety Observation Report (1 per Quarter) - Encourage your Team to do the same
• Ability to operator all production equipment within their cell and have a general knowledge of technical skilled processes and equipment.
• Train employees/temporaries, update New Team Member Talks (as needed) and Training Matrixes
• Require employees to inspect tools and equipment before each use. Make daily spot checks to determine that equipment is in good condition.
• Maintain good attendance and punctuality as defined in the Attendance Policy
• Work with Teams using problem solving, root cause analysis and Kiazen activities to resolve machine, tool or process issues

Basic Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Basic Math skillds
• Microsoft Office computer skills
• Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1-3 years of experience as a machine operator in a similar work environment

Additional Comments:

• Will be required to complete Safety, Quality and Leadership Training
