Job summary

Children's Receiving Home is seeking a dedicated Residential Counselor to provide campus-wide support for youth in care. You will maintain supervision during scheduled hours, coordinate with Residential Counselors, and help de-escalate crises using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques.

The role involves training and evaluating staff, managing schedules, building therapeutic relationships, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. On-site work with varied hours is required.

Responsibilities

  • Be at the facility during scheduled hours when children are present.
  • Maintain continuous communication with Residential Counselors to ensure safe supervision.
  • Act as a mediator between staff and youth and assist in resolving crises.
  • Provide feedback to Residential Counselors to promote growth and learning.
  • Direct and train Residential Counselors; evaluate their performance.
  • Address employee complaints with support from supervisors.
  • Prepare schedules to ensure shift coverage and staffing ratios.
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with youth while maintaining boundaries.
  • Check in with youth to prevent crises; de-escalate after crises and conduct Life Space Interview (LSI).
  • Document incidents, restraints, and crises per agency and CCL standards; assist with group work and individual problems.
  • Ensure proper use of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques; intervene in crises and lead containment when needed.
  • Analyze crisis situations to determine causes and prevention; discuss with staff and supervisors.
  • Assist in Safety Plans for high-risk youth; ensure staffing ratios are met.
  • Notify staff of new policies; ensure dorm and activity schedules are followed.
  • May restrain clients as instructed per TCI to ensure safety.
  • Participate in recreational activities to build relationships with clients.
  • Communicate with program staff and clinic for continuity of care; provide transportation as needed.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment and report accidents or unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure client living spaces meet expectations and provide feedback to the supervisor.
  • Perform other agency duties as assigned.
  • Familiarity with emergency/disaster plans; provide support to staff, volunteers, interns, and auxiliary members.
  • Provide childcare and supervision for clients; attend staff meetings and mandatory trainings.
  • Complete documentation per program requirements and regulatory requirements; document hours and discrepancies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Campus Wide Support• During scheduled hours, is required to be at the facility at all times when children are present.• Maintain continuous communication with Residential Counselors (RC’s) to ensure that safe and effective supervision of clients occurs at all times.• Acts as a mediator between staff and youth by providing leadership and assistance in resolving crisis situations.• Provides feedback to RC’s in a professional manner with the intention of promoting growth and learning.• Regularly directs Residential Counselors in the performance of their duties.• Trains new Residential Counselors.• Evaluate Residential Counselors in the performance of their duties.• Addresses employee complaints with support from Supervisors.• Prepares schedules to ensure coverage of shifts in compliance with required staffing ratios.• Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with all youth while maintaining boundaries.• Pro-actively check in with the youth frequently to prevent crisis situations.• Remain with staff and clients during a crisis situation until resident returns to their baseline behavior pattern.• Assist clients in de-escalating after a crisis situation, conduct Life Space Interview (LSI) and complete any necessary documentation.• Provides assistance to staff with each child in working with a group and in handling individual problems.• Ensure that staff is utilizing proper Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) intervention/techniques.• Intervene in crisis situations as instructed in TCI to ensure safety of clients, assume leadrole when intervention involves use of physical containment.• Analyze crisis situations to determine the cause of the problem and possible ways to prevent the situation in the future. Discuss situation analysis with staff and supervisors as needed.• Assist as needed in the development and implementation of Safety Plans for youth displaying high risk behaviors.• Ensure staffing ratios are met at all times.• Notifies staff of new policies and protocols.• Ensures that Dorm Schedules and Program Activity schedules are followed.• May need to restrain clients as instructed per TCI to ensure the safety of staff and clients.• Participate with the youth in a variety of recreational activities to help build and maintain positive relationships with the clients.• Document incidents restraints and crisis in accordance with agency and CCL standards.• Communicate with Program Supervisor, Residential Counselors, Clinicians, Program Teams and CRH clinic regarding issues concerning the clients as needed, for continuity of care.• Provide transportation for clients as needed.• Maintains a safe and healthy work environment within assigned client support servicesfor clients, staff, and visitors; reports all accidents or illnesses occurring in the workplaceand/or during working hours per CRH/insurance requirements and procedures.• Accountable for reporting building and equipment damage and/or unsafe conditions and initiate action to correct any unsafe conditions.• Ensure clients living space meets and/or exceeds the expectations of CCL and CRH andprovide regular feedback to the Program Supervisor.• Perform other agency duties as assignedOther Duties• Must be familiar with, and have the ability to carry out, all emergency/disaster plans.• Provides support to Residential staff, volunteers, interns, and any other auxiliary staff.• Provides childcare and supervision for the clients.• Attends and participates in regular staff meetings regarding program issues.• Attends mandatory in-service trainings.• Complete written documentation per program requirements, in compliance with agency policy and training and CCL Title 22 regulation requirements.• Attend and participate in team meetings to be aware of and facilitate the development and application of needs and services treatment plans for each child, providing documentation as necessary.• Ensure accurate recording of worked hours and notify a supervisor of any discrepancies in a timely manner and in accordance with agency guidelines.Quality Management• Adheres to policies, procedures and regulations of the Children’s Receiving Home.• Models and supports the principles and practices of quality management.• Maintains a focus on outcomes for assigned program.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential dutysatisfactorily.
