Caregiving Shift Lead Position Summary

The Caregiving Shift Lead is responsible for overseeing daily caregiving operations during assigned shifts while providing direct care and support to clients or residents. This role serves as the primary point of contact for caregivers on duty, ensuring quality care, compliance with company policies, timely communication, and a safe, supportive environment for residents and staff.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Shift Oversight
  • Lead and support caregiving staff during assigned shifts.
  • Coordinate shift assignments and ensure adequate coverage.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide coaching and guidance as needed.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for caregiver questions, concerns, and emergencies.
  • Report staffing, resident, and operational concerns to management.
Resident/Client Care
  • Provide direct personal care assistance including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, transferring, and mobility support.
  • Assist residents with meals, hydration, and medication reminders as permitted by company policy.
  • Monitor residents' physical, emotional, and behavioral well-being.
  • Respond promptly to resident needs and emergency situations.
  • Promote resident dignity, independence, and quality of life.
Documentation and Communication
  • Complete and review required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Communicate resident updates, incidents, and concerns to management and incoming shifts.
  • Ensure shift reports are completed before the end of each shift.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and company policies.
Compliance and Safety
  • Ensure adherence to all company policies, state regulations, and safety procedures.
  • Conduct routine safety checks of the care environment.
  • Assist with incident reporting and follow-up documentation.
  • Ensure proper use of equipment and infection control procedures.
Training and Mentoring
  • Support onboarding and training of new caregivers.
  • Model best practices in resident care and customer service.
  • Encourage teamwork, accountability, and professional behavior.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of caregiving, direct support, or healthcare experience.
  • Previous leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Preferred CNA, CBRF, DSP, or related certification.
  • Experience working in assisted living, memory care, group homes, or home care settings.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
