Position Summary
The Caregiver supports residents with activities of daily living including personal hygiene, socialization, cognition, and physical health. Encourages resident independence, supports resident choice and preserves resident dignity through professional conduct and interactions.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Ensure the CAPLICO Core Values and Code of Conduct are adhered to at all times.
- Ensure compliance with Resident Rights and HIPAA policies at all times.
- Demonstrate teamwork by communicating with other staff, actively working to resolve problems and lending assistance to other community staff.
- Provide residents with assistance for personal needs according to the support/care plan (toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, transport, and dining).
- Practice patience, compassion, and empathy in all interactions with residents.
- Focus on residents’ abilities and provide social/emotional support, encouraging the resident to be as independent as possible.
- Promote improved quality of life for residents through person‑centered care and daily interactions, including prompt response to calls for assistance and sensitivity to resident needs for socialization and privacy.
- Provide direct assistance to participate in activities, offer appointment reminders, and interact respectfully with residents and family members.
- Refer family members to nurse or supervisor for service/care concerns.
- Consistently utilize Standard Precautions and follow infection control procedures.
- Observe for changes in resident health/condition, behavior, or needs and inform supervisor/shift leader promptly.
- Promptly report unusual events, suspicion of abuse/neglect, and emergency situations.
- Assist residents with dining, including preparing/cleaning the dining room, assisting with food selection, serving beverages and food, and promoting a pleasant dining environment.
- Complete resident laundry as scheduled and according to community policy.
- Clean resident rooms, bathrooms, and common areas according to community protocols and schedules, and report maintenance needs promptly.
- Take all appropriate safety precautions to minimize risk of injury to resident, self, and other staff, consistently practicing proper body mechanics and safe handling techniques.
- Fulfill state regulatory requirements for annual training and/or continuing education.
- Attend designated meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Physical Demands and Sensory Requirements
- Must be able to move frequently throughout the workday.
- Must cope with mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that enable adequate sensory function.
- Must function independently, show personal integrity, flexibility, and ability to work effectively with residents, employees, visitors, and support agencies.
- Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
- Must relate and work with the disabled, ill, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the community.
- Stand/walk up to eight hours a day.
- Frequently support up to 70 pounds; occasionally lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently kneel, bend, squat, climb and reach.
- Must assist with evacuation of residents.

- Ability to speak and understand the English language.
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, visitors, and the general public based on their maturity level.
- Ability to remain calm and level‑headed in emergencies.
- Well groomed, professional, and harmonious with other personnel.
- Willingness to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into resident care practices.
- Follow written and oral instructions.
- Maintain patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, handling residents, staff, and visitors with professionalism.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Current CPR/First Aid certifications.
- Completion of a state‑approved Caregiver program, as required by state regulation.
- Meet age requirements according to community policy and state regulations.
