Job summary

City and County of San Francisco's Sheriff’s Office seeks a Sheriff’s Sergeant (Promotional Only) to supervise inmates, bailiffs, and field operations within custody, courts, and related divisions. This role requires a POST Basic Certificate and four years of SF Sheriff's Office service in specified deputy classes.

The recruitment is restricted to current SF employees; the exam includes video-based HR exercise and performance tasks for the eligible list.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience in the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office in classes 8302/8304/8504/8306/8506, in any combination.
• Possession of a POST Basic Certificate.
• Promotional recruitment limited to current City and County of San Francisco employees in specified deputy classes.

Responsibilities

• Supervises sworn staff in care and control of inmates; maintains order and security in jail facilities; oversees day-to-day jail operations and prepares reports.
• Assumes facility area command during emergencies or extraordinary events; documents jail emergencies.
• Supervises bailiffs in civil, criminal, and juvenile courts; supervises civil process enforcement.
• Supervises field operations and administrative duties related to investigations, training, warrants service, and inmate transportation.
• Oversees personnel functions, budgeting, and facility security operations; acts as Watch Commander when needed.
