The Sheriff's Department is seeking skilled Facilities Maintenance Mechanic Trainees who are responsible for the general maintenance, repair, and modification of buildings, fixtures, and equipment within the correctional/institutional facilities of the Sheriff's Department. Sheriff's Facilities Maintenance Mechanic Trainees work under training conditions to acquire the skills necessary to promote to the journey level (up to $34.40/hr).

Detention Differential: Employees in the classifications of Sheriff's Maintenance Mechanic Trainee and Sheriff's Maintenance Mechanic assigned to work at a detention center(s) shall be entitled to $1.50 per hour over and above their base hourly rate for hours actually worked at this facility.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Experience: Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience maintaining large commercial, large industrial, or large institutional facilities, performing skilled tasks in one or more of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning.

Certification: Certification from an accredited trade school or college in one or more of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning. Certificate MUST be attached with the application.
NOTE: Residential or light commercial new construction experience is NOT considered qualifying. Clearly describe your experience in the Work Experience section of your online application. An excellent candidate will have experience in the maintenance of institutional buildings, to include electrical wiring, plumbing systems, and HVAC systems. Possession of Universal CFC Card or welding certification is also desirable; indicate possession & certification numbers on application.
Examination: There will be a competitive evaluation of qualifications based on a review of the Application and Supplemental Questionnaire. It is to your advantage to provide as much relevant and detailed work experience as possible, as resumes will not be reviewed in lieu of the application materials.
