The Sheriff's Department is seeking experienced Facilities Maintenance Mechanics who are responsible for the general maintenance, repair, and modification of buildings, fixtures, and equipment within the correctional/institutional facilities of the Sheriff's Department. These positions perform a full range of skilled maintenance and repair work and may supervise and direct the work of inmate workers.

Detention Differential: Employees in the classifications of Sheriff's Maintenance Mechanic Trainee and Sheriff's Maintenance Mechanic assigned to work at a detention center(s) shall be entitled to $1.50 per hour over and above their base hourly rate for hours actually worked at this facility.
Must possess one of the following options:
Option 1: Four (4) years of full-time equivalent journey-level experience maintaining large commercial, large industrial, or large institutional facilities, performing skilled tasks in one or more of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning.
Option 2: Certification from an accredited trade school or college in one or more of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (Certificate must be submitted with an application) AND two (2) years of full-time equivalent journey-level experience maintaining large commercial, large industrial, or large institutional facilities, performing skilled tasks in one or more of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and/or air conditioning.
Option 3: Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience as a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Maintenance Mechanic Trainee.
NOTE: Residential or light commercial new construction experience is NOT considered qualifying. Clearly describe your experience in the Employment History section of your online application.
An excellent candidate will have extensive experience in the maintenance of institutional buildings, including electrical wiring, plumbing systems, and HVAC systems. Possession of Universal CFC Card or welding certification is also desirable; indicate possession and certification numbers on application.
