Job summary

This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings. The role involves counseling, escorting students, monitoring behavior, and delivering crime-prevention education.

Qualifications

• Requires HS diploma or GED supplemented by coursework equivalent to one year of college in Criminal Justice or related field.
• Requires four years of experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• SC Criminal Justice Academy Basic Law Enforcement Certification.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Communicates daily with students, faculty, administration, and parents.
• Counsels students on issues at home, school, and in personal relationships, including abuse, anger, and crime education.
• Escorts the school to extracurricular activities at the school’s request.
• Monitors and manages behavior of students.
• Performs security functions for athletic events.
• Makes presentations to educate groups about crime prevention.
• Attends hearings and meetings such as PTO and school board meetings.
• Conduct Gang Awareness and Prevention Classes.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Essential Functions

• Communicates daily with students, faculty, administration, and parents.
• Counsels students through problems at home, school, and in their personal relationships on topics including abuse, anger, and management, law education, search and seizure, and drug abuse; counsels students on crime and disorder, gangs, and drug activities.
• Escorts the school to their extracurricular activities at the school’s request.
• Monitors and manages behavior of the students in the schools.
• Performs security functions for the school’s athletic events.
• Makes presentations to the school, local organizations, and churches to educate groups about crime prevention.
• Attends explosion hearings, arbitration hearings, PTO meetings, and school board meetings.
• Conduct Gang Awareness and Prevention Classes.
• Performs other duties and related work as instructed and assigned.

Requirements

• Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college in Criminal Justice or related field.
• Requires four years of experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Basic Law Enforcement Certification.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state Driver’s License.
