Qualifications

  • Requires high school graduation or GED with specialized courses in Criminal Justice or related field.

  • Must possess SC Basic Law Enforcement Certification.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state Driver’s License.

Job description

General Description:

The purpose of this job is to ensure the safety and well being of the school administrators, faculty, staff, students, and parents.

This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Communicates daily with students, faculty, administration, and parents.
  • Counsels students through problems at home, school, and in their personal relationships on topics including abuse, anger, and management, law education, search and seizure, and drug abuse; counsels students on crime and disorder, gangs, and drug activities.
  • Escorts the school to their extracurricular activities at the school's request.
  • Monitors and manages behavior of the students in the schools.
  • Performs security functions for the school's athletic events.
  • Makes presentations to the school, local organizations, and churches to educate groups about crime prevention.
  • Attends explosion hearings, arbitration hearings, PTO meetings, and school board meetings.
  • Conduct Gang Awareness and Prevention Classes.
  • Performs other duties and related work as instructed and assigned.
Supervisory Functions:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college in Criminal Justice or related field.

Requires four years of experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Reasoning/Math/Language Skills:

Ability to read analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Physical Demands:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement

Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
  • Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
  • Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.

Special Certifications and Licenses:
