Job description

Shepherd University, a NCAA Division II institution located in Shepherdstown, WV is seeking a highly motivated individual for a Graduate Assistant position with the Athletic Department to begin in August 2025.

GAME OPERATIONS: Prepare athletic facility for game day events. Coordinate facility needs, equipment needs and human resource needs with the administrators and head coach prior to and during game day contests. Perform duties listed on Game Management Operations worksheet, which includes but is not limited to assisting visiting teams and officials to locker room and athletic facility, preparing all equipment, setting up tables, bleachers and sound system, and enforcing crowd management. Manage student-athlete workers during game day activities. Oversee the webcasting requirements for specific sports.

FAN ENGAGEMENT: Design and implement fan engagement events during athletic contests to increase ticket sales. Design and execute marketing plan to increase awareness of athletic schedules. Ensure opportunities for student-athletes to engage with fans before or after athletic contests. Oversee undergraduate students seeking field work study opportunities within the sports marketing program.

MARKETING: Assist in identifying team events and success stories to promote via University and athletics’ social media and webpages. Target communication to alumni, fans, parents, and other key markets regarding upcoming events including but not limited to game schedules, fund-raising events, and promotional activities. Create a social media campaign for fan engagement. Other duties assigned by athletic administrators

A bachelor’s degree in the fields of sports management, marketing, business, communications, or another related field and acceptance into a graduate program at Shepherd University is required.

A criminal background check will be required as a condition of employment.

  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Social media savvy
  • Experience with Photoshop or another graphic creation/editing software is a plus
  • Experience with videography and editing skills is a plus
  • Planning, time management, and excellent organizational skills are a must
  • Ability to take direction and meet deadlines is a must
  • Experience with sales and customer service skills is a plus
