Job summary

City of Dallas is seeking a Veterinary Services Supervisor to lead the daily intake and care of animals in the municipal shelter. You will supervise veterinary technicians and assistants, coordinate medical evaluations, treatments, and records, and ensure adherence to shelter policies and standards.

You’ll work with veterinarians to determine effective medical workflows, develop staff training, and maintain infection-control practices in a high-volume environment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of husbandry, nutrition, disease, diagnostics, heart worm disease and treatment, and pharmaceuticals.
• Knowledge of Local, State, and Federal laws as applied to Shelter medicine.
• Ability to diagnose and recognize illness, injury, and disease in animals.
• Ability to handle and humanely manage various domestic or exotic animals in different health stages.
• Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of health records and reports.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
• Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
• Organizational and time management skills including de-escalation techniques.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, oversees, leads, and monitors the animal examination and intake operations for the City's animal shelter; supervises staff; delegates assignments; provides performance evaluations.
• Creates, develops, and implements schedules, assignments, and work flows; ensures coverage and defined objectives.
• Inspects and reviews work for quality; recommends methods to improve production and efficiency.
• Gathers and examines animals with medical evaluation requests; administers treatments and updates system.
• Assists veterinarians with procedures and exams; supports medical evaluations and services.
• Oversees intake rooms; ensures safety, cleanliness, and inventory control.
• Trains and develops staff; collaborates with Veterinarian on policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
