Job summary

Santa Barbara Humane, Santa Barbara Campus is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join a busy shelter clinic in California. You will support veterinarians, assist with exams, vaccinations, and surgeries, and help with data entry and customer service.

You must be able to work weekends and holidays; prior shelter or veterinary hospital experience is preferred. The role offers competitive benefits, 401k, paid time off, and pet care discounts for staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year in related field; experience in an animal shelter or veterinary clinic preferred.
• Excellent computer skills and proficiency with clinic software.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members.

Responsibilities

• Restrain animals humanely for exams and procedures.
• Assist with surgical and dental work and post-operative care.
• Perform medical tasks: blood draws, medications, vaccines and microchips.
• Operation of clinic reception duties: scheduling, records, and client communication.
• Maintain sterile fields and assist with anesthesia monitoring.
• Keep kennels, cages and work areas clean and organized.
• Provide high-quality customer service to clients and volunteers.
