Santa Barbara Humane is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join the Santa Barbara Campus. This full-time, non-exempt role supports clinicians, performs vaccines, assists with surgeries and exams, and helps maintain a clean, organized shelter environment.

Ideal candidates have shelter or veterinary clinic exposure, strong computer skills, and excellent communication. Weekend and holiday availability is required, with comprehensive benefits including health, vision, dental, and a 401k plan.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year in related field.
• Excellent computer skills.
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient use of clinic/shelter software.
• VACSP license or ability to obtain within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Restrain animals for exams safely.
• Assist with surgeries and dental procedures.
• Perform medical tasks: blood draws, medicating, vaccines.
• Maintain sterile field and handle anesthesia monitoring.
• Keep records and kennels labeled; assist with scheduling and client services.
