Job summary

PHS/SPCA is seeking a Staff Veterinarian to join our team of shelter veterinarians. You will perform medical evaluations, treat shelter animals, and conduct spay and neuter surgeries for dogs, cats, and rabbits, ensuring high welfare standards.

The role requires a DVM and a California license, plus the ability to work in a fast-paced shelter environment, with on-site duties and emergency coverage as needed.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree with 1+ years' clinic experience.
  • Valid California Veterinary Medical License.
  • Valid California Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Examine, diagnose, and prescribe treatment for shelter animals.
  • Perform spay and neuter surgeries for dogs, cats, and rabbits.
  • Monitor health of the shelter population and coordinate with shelter managers.
  • Maintain animal medical records in compliance with the law.
  • Provide after-hours on-call support for emergencies.
  • Pursue continuing education and professional development.
  • Lead and supervise Registered Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, and volunteers.
