Job summary

Catholic Charities of Delaware, Otsego, & Schoharie Counties is seeking compassionate individuals to serve as Warming Center Staff for the 2025–2026 season in New York. You will help guests, support safety, and ensure a respectful, welcoming space during cold months.

Shift options include Evening and Overnight hours, 7–14 hours per week, with a pay rate of $30/hour (training at $18/hour). This role offers meaningful service, flexible scheduling, and a community-focused environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience with individuals experiencing homelessness or vulnerable populations preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor guests and ensure safety during indoor and outdoor hours.
• Assist guests with forms and applications for services.
• Keep an accurate daily guest log and report to supervisor.
• Enforce warming center policies with professionalism and compassion.
• Set up the center at shift start (cots, bedding, snacks, beverages).
• Create a welcoming, calm, and supportive atmosphere for all guests.

What You’ll Do as Warming Station Staff:

• Monitoring guests and ensuring safety during both indoor and outdoor hours—whether they’re awake or sleeping
• Providing respectful assistance with forms and applications for services
• Keeping an accurate daily guest log and reporting to your supervisor
• Enforcing warming center policies with professionalism and compassion
• Setting up the center at the start of each shift (including cots, bedding, snacks, beverages, and entertainment supplies)
• Creating a welcoming, calm, and supportive atmosphere for all guests

Program Schedule:

• Runs November 2025 through April 2026
• Open every day—including holidays
• Flexible part-time hours (7–14 hours/week)

Choose from two convenient shifts:

Evening: 5:00 PM – 12:30 AM

Overnight: 12:30 AM – 8:00 AM

Compensation:

$30.00/hour November - April; Training rate $18.00/hour

What We’re Looking For:

• High School Diploma or GED required
• 1 to 3 years of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or vulnerable populations
• Empathy, reliability, and strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to remain calm, professional, and compassionate in all situations
