Job summary

The New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is recruiting for one Community Assistant to support intake operations and ensure clean, safe facilities for clients. The role includes housekeeping, supply stocking, mail distribution, and escorts as needed across shelters and service areas in the City of New York.

Minimum qualifications note that no formal education or experience is required beyond the ability to follow simple instructions, with English communication essential.

Qualifications

• No formal higher education or experience requirements; ability to understand and carry out simple instructions is required.
• Candidates must be able to understand and be understood in English.

Responsibilities

• Perform general housekeeping duties to maintain agency health and sanitation and support client services.
• Maintain clean restrooms, dorms, laundry rooms, common areas, office spaces, kitchen and cafeteria; dispose litter and garbage; manage toiletries and linen.
• Load/unload deliveries, stock supplies, transport household goods and client lockers, distribute mail, escort clients as needed.
• Assist in monitoring client program activities and crowd control.
