Job summary

Bethany House Services in Cincinnati is seeking a licensed social worker to lead case management for a residential family shelter. You will assess needs, develop individualized service plans, and coordinate housing, health, education, and family supports.

As the anchor for families during a challenging season, you will ensure compliance with HMIS/HUD requirements, advocate within public systems, and partner with community agencies to secure stable, affordable housing for clients.

Qualifications

  • Active Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in good standing in Ohio (non-negotiable).
  • BSW or related field required.
  • 2+ years of case management experience with families, children, or youth in shelter, housing, or community settings.
  • Solid knowledge of JFS systems (TANF/OWF, SNAP, Medicaid, childcare, workforce).
  • Formal training and hands-on experience with trauma-informed care.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments with a trauma-informed lens and plan housing supports.
  • Manage a caseload of 15–20 families and coordinate services.
  • Navigate housing options, tenant outreach, and move-in coordination with Housing Specialist.
  • Document accurately in HMIS and agency systems per HUD/JFS standards.
  • Collaborate with Family Services to support children and families.

Here's a snapshot of the meaningful work you'll take on every day:Intake, Assessment & PlanningConduct biopsychosocial and housing assessments using a trauma-informed, culturally responsive lensPartner with families to build individualized service plans with clear goals around housing, income, health, education, and family well-beingIdentify immediate safety needs and coordinate supports from day oneHousing Navigation & StabilizationChampion Housing First strategies to shorten shelter stays and get families into safe, stable, affordable housing — fastPartner with our Housing Specialist on landlord outreach, unit searches, applications, inspections, and move-in coordinationManage and coordinate client financial assistance (deposits, utilities, rental arrears, prevention/rapid rehousing) per program guidelinesSystems NavigationNavigate shelter-funded program requirements (ESG, HQS, HUD documentation — you know the alphabet)Connect families to vital benefits: TANF/OWF, SNAP, Medicaid, Child Care, PRC, and workforce supportsAdvocate fiercely for families within public systems and ensure all eligibility and documentation standards are metService Coordination & Community ConnectionLink families to behavioral health, primary care, DV/SA services, early childhood education, legal aid, transportation, and beyondStay plugged into the local resource landscape — and actively seek out new partnerships that benefit the families you serveCollaborate with our Family Services Department and Parent & Child Coordinator to wrap support around every family member, especially childrenTrauma-Informed, Family-Centered PracticeApply the core principles of trauma-informed care in every interaction: safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowermentUtilize motivational interviewing, de-escalation, critical time intervention (CTI), and strengths-based engagementHonor boundaries, protect confidentiality, and champion client rights — alwaysCase Management & DocumentationMeet with each family for a minimum 30-minute 1:1 weekly — because consistency builds trustProvide post-shelter aftercare to families who have exited the programMaintain accurate, timely documentation in HMIS and agency EHR per HUD, JFS, and agency standardsContribute to continuous quality improvement through outcome tracking and peer file reviewsShelter Collaboration & Team EngagementShow up — and show out — in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferencing, and coordinated entry processesSupport shelter operations, safety protocols, and critical incident responseParticipate in rotating on-call/after-hours coverage as assignedVolunteer coordination during agency events — because great teams do it all togetherWHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLERequired:Active Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in good standing in the State of Ohio (non-negotiable!)BSW or related field required;2+ years of case management experience with families, children, or youth in shelter, housing, or community-based settingsDemonstrated experience with publicly and privately funded homelessness programsSolid knowledge of JFS systems (TANF/OWF, SNAP, Medicaid, childcare, workforce)Formal training and hands-on application of trauma-informed careProficiency in HMIS, documentation standards, and Microsoft Office or Google WorkspaceValid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel locally between sites and partner agencies(Bonus Points!)
