Job summary

The ASPCA in Columbus, OH is seeking a Shelter Behavior Associate to join the CRC team. The role starts with the Shelter Behavior Apprenticeship (SBA), a 10-week paid program delivering hands-on learning in animal behavior within a shelter setting.

After SBA completion, you advance to the Shelter Behavior Associate position and may progress to a Behavior Specialist with coaching and advanced behavior rehab responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates natural skill when handling animals and safe handling techniques.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Good team player with collaboration skills.
• Superior problem-solving abilities; ability to troubleshoot challenges.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and pass motor vehicle history check.

Responsibilities

• Behavior Modification, Behavior Assessment, Animal Handling & Data Collection
• Conduct daily treatment sessions and record data after each session
• Monitor the behavioral health of animals and communicate observations to managers
• Provide coaching, consultation & behavior support to staff and volunteers
• Lead internal dog training classes and participate in Learning Lab modules
• Ttravel for SBA program learning activities and shelter deployments
