Job summary

The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is seeking an entry-level Animal Care position to help with daily cleaning, feeding, and enrichment of shelter animals. You will assist in handling animals for medical procedures and support showing animals to potential adopters.

Responsibilities include maintaining clean housing areas, accurate intake records, and basic administrative tasks. This role requires English fluency and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• 6 months of experience in an animal kennel environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a busy workplace.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Understanding of humane care and treatment of animals.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Fluent in English.
• Spanish language skills preferred.
• Previous experience in animal sheltering preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean, sanitary, and comfortable animal areas daily.
• Feed, water, and groom animals on a daily basis while monitoring condition.
• Assist in showing animals to potential adopters and communicating behavior.
• Under supervision, administer booster medications.
• Maintain accurate animal intake paperwork and records.
• Assist with intake exams and vaccination after training.
• Participate in dog playgroups and staff meetings.
• Keep office areas where animals are housed neat and clean.
