Job summary

The City of Alexandria Animal Shelter seeks a dedicated employee to perform routine care and operations within the shelter. You will assist with feeding, cleaning, animal handling, and health monitoring under supervision.

Duties include transporting animals, maintaining records, and supporting the animal control team. A high school diploma or GED is required with some experience in animal care preferred; a valid LA driver's license is required with potential training for euthanasia and state

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required; some experience in animal care preferred or equivalent.
Must possess a valid driver's license; Louisiana license required within appointment and maintained.
Must complete basic animal control training within one year of hire.
May be required to complete euthanasia training and obtain LA Certified Animal Euthanasia Technician within two years.

Responsibilities

Perform daily care of animals including feeding, watering, bathing, and exercise.
Clean, disinfect kennels, cages, bowls, and related equipment.
Identify injuries, report conditions, and assist with exams and vaccinations as directed.
Restrain animals and assist veterinary staff during procedures.
Transport and handle animals for adoption, reclaiming, and impounding; maintain location records.
