Job summary

Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) seeks an experienced supervisor to oversee the Animal Care team. The role focuses on coaching, ensuring gold-standard care, and guiding daily activities to meet procedures across a large shelter environment.

You will lead staff, manage schedules, train new hires, and collaborate with leadership to improve care quality and program scope. Experience in shelter settings and a passion for animal welfare are essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum 6 months of prior animal handling experience required.
• Forward thinking and able to anticipate challenges and respond quickly.
• Adaptable to evolving protocols.
• Treat animals and people with respect and view others as collaborators.
• Availability to modify schedule as needed to meet organizational needs.
• Ability to travel throughout the five boroughs and nationally for training.
• Able to lift and move up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Assign work including cleaning, laundry, dog walking, and enrichment.
• Inspect kennel cleanliness and staff performance; follow up as needed.
• Participate in staff hiring and evaluations with Care Center Manager and HR.
• Establish and monitor staff performance goals and provide evaluations.
• Create weekly staff schedules.
• Monitor staff productivity and provide real-time support.
• Provide hands-on training to new staff to meet minimum standards by end of probation.
• Oversee inventory management and ensure adequate supplies.
