Job summary

The Humane Society for Southwest Washington seeks an Animal Care Supervisor to lead a team responsible for the daily care of thousands of shelter animals. This full-time, nonexempt role emphasizes humane handling, staff development, and adherence to SOPs across departments.

You will schedule staff, supervise volunteers, coordinate with the Veterinary Clinic and Population Management teams, and implement improvements to care and safety practices in a fast-paced animal shelter environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years in a supervisory role with a proven track record.
• Experience handling dogs, cats and small animals in a shelter or similar setting.
• Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Direct supervision of Animal Care staff and volunteers, ensuring humane care.
• Create schedules, monitor labor needs, and enforce SOPs across departments.
• Coordinate with Veterinary Clinic and Population Management teams weekly.
• Provide coaching, performance feedback, and staff development.
• Maintain safe, sanitary work areas and effective communication with leadership.
