Job summary

St. Charles County Government is seeking an Animal Behavior and Enrichment Trainer to implement, practice, and review the canine and feline behavior programs of the shelter, including evaluations, training, enrichment, and basic animal husbandry, under the supervision of the Division Assistant Director - Humane Services.

Responsibilities include evaluating dogs for behavior concerns, creating daily enrichment plans, leading training and behavior modification, educating staff and volunteers, and

Qualifications

• Must have at least 3 years of canine behavior/training experience in welfare, shelter, or rescue
• Certification with CCPDT or equivalent, and Fear Free certification preferred
• High school diploma or GED required; CCPDT and Fear Free certifications emphasize ongoing learning

Responsibilities

• Works with Division Assistant Director and staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
• Evaluates dogs for behavior concerns and adoptability.
• Prepares daily enrichment plans for shelter animals.
• Performs behavior evaluations on bite cases and dangerous dogs.
• Monitors behavioral conditions and shares updates with management.
• Provides education programs on animal training for staff, fosters, and volunteers.
• Communicates with the public to explain animal behavior issues in adoptable animals.
• Implements programs for dogs and cats in need of behavior modification.
• Assists with pre-adoption and foster counseling for successful placements.
