Job summary

Thermal Care, part of the Piovan Group, seeks a skilled metal fabricator in Niles, IL to interpret drawings and fabricate parts for Pump Tank Systems. The role reports to Production Supervisor and requires operating brakes, shears, punches, and cranes while ensuring quality and safety on the shop floor.

This position emphasizes measurement accuracy, blueprint interpretation, and efficient part fabrication in a fast-paced environment. Training and a path for skill growth are provided.

Responsibilities

• Select appropriate type of sheet metal (galvanized, copper, stainless).
• Measure sheet metal according to drawings.
• Cut sheet metal by hand or with power tools.
• Cut into shapes for Pump Tank Systems.
• Interpret blueprints and tolerances to fabricate parts.
• Bend sheet metal to form required shapes.
• Drill or punch holes in metal pieces.
• Smooth edges and deburr with files.
• Install components in fabricated parts as needed.
• Operate fabricating machines (shears, brakes, presses).
• Form and assemble components in supporting framework.
• Mark dimensions using scribers, dividers, and squares.
• Inspect finished work for conformance to specs.

Description

Role

The metal fabrication position interprets mechanical drawings to determine the proper process or material used to fabricate a part using equipment such as a shear and brake press. This position reports to the Production Supervisor and is located in Niles, Illinois.

Duties and Responsibility

Select appropriate type of sheet metal, such galvanized steel, copper, and stainless steel

Measure appropriate size of sheet metal

Cut sheet metal by hand or using power shears

Cut into shapes to be used in Pump Tank Systems

Interpret blueprints

Bend sheet metal to form shapes

Drill / punch holes in metal

Smooth over rough edges with file

Install components as needed in fabricated parts

Operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls to cut bend, block and form or straighten materials

Install assemblies in supportive framework

Use scribers, dividers, and squares to mark dimensions on materials

Inspect work and / or assemblies and installation for conformance to specifications

Requirements

• Experience with overhead cranes
• Experience with brake press operation, shear operation and using punch presses
• Position typically expects three (3) to five (5) years of direct/relevant experience
• Material Handling / Forklift operation experience
• Use of small hand and pneumatic hand tools
• Excellent math skills
• Must be detail-oriented
• Effective communication skills
• Must have a positive attitude and foster a continuous improvement environment
• Operate machinery safely in accordance with Thermal Care’s safety policy
