Job summary

West Star Aviation is hiring a Sheet Metal Technician to join our MRO team. You’ll perform basic to advanced sheet metal operations on turbine aircraft structures, read blueprints, work from drawings, and apply fastening systems, sealants, and finish materials.

You may supervise crews, organize manpower, set priorities, and ensure work aligns with FAA guidelines. A high school diploma is required; Airframe and Powerplant license is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Airframe and Powerplant License is preferred.
  • Experience with sheet metal and turbine aircraft structures helpful.
  • Ability to read blueprints and drawings and work from technical manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic sheet metal operations such as drilling, riveting, cutting on airframe and components.
  • Apply and remove sealant, sound deadening and finish materials.
  • Maintain, clean and repair shop facilities, equipment and tooling.
  • Utilize basic computer skills to navigate training, manuals, and maintenance databases.
  • Communicate clearly in English.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

What you can expect as a Sheet Metal Technician at West Star:

As Sheet Metal Technician, each day will bring new experiences and opportunities for growth. You will need to have a basic to advancedknowledge of turbine aircraft structures, reading blueprints, working from drawings,fastening systems, procedures and techniques. You many also be required to help supervise crews and assist in organizing manpower and setting priorities for involved projects.

You Will Be ESSENTIAL To Many FUNCTIONS Including
  • Perform basic sheet metal operations such as drilling, riveting, cutting on airframe and associated components.
  • Application and removal of sealant, sound deadening and finish materials.
  • Maintenance, cleaning and repair of shop facilities, equipment and tooling when required.
  • Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance data bases.
  • Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English.
  • Any other job-related duties assigned by supervisor or management.
Your Education

What you’ll need to bring with you: A High school diploma or equivalent, and Airframe and Powerplant License is preferred. Avalid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.

Your Experience

Prior experience working with sheet metal is preferred.

Your Sense of Responsibility

Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments. Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work. Must have reliable transportation to get to work each day. Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines. Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties. Maintain customer-oriented work habits.

Physical Requirements
  • Lifts 50 lbs.
  • Routine walking, bending and squatting, or sitting.
  • Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
  • Climb ladders and stairs, work in small, restricted areas.
  • Standing for long periods of time.
Mental Requirements
  • Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation.
  • Work with others in a professional manner.
Supervision

Work under supervision of assigned Team Leader. May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations from very cold to very hot. Work outside during aircraft runs will occur. Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used

Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic. Pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical equipment. Jacks, stands, lifts, and other support devices. Tugs, power carts, and other engine-powered equipment.

Compensation & Benefit Information

The following information is disclosed according to state specific requirements. If the position applied to is not in a state with these requirements, the following information may not apply. The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $22-$38. Actual hourly rate will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience and performance. Additional compensation in the form of a shift differential will be provided if the employee is assigned to an alternate shift. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package. Other forms of compensation include a semi-annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match and employer contribution to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
