Job summary

West Star Aviation is seeking a Sheet Metal Technician to perform sheet metal operations on turbine aircraft structures in a hands-on hangar environment. You will read blueprints, drill, rivet, and cut components, apply sealants, and support maintenance tasks with a focus on safety and quality.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with an Airframe and Powerplant license preferred. Prior sheet metal experience and strong teamwork are valued in our fast-paced shop.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Airframe and Powerplant license preferred.
  • Experience with sheet metal and aircraft structures is desired.
  • Must read and interpret blueprints and drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Perform drilling, riveting, and cutting on airframes and components.
  • Apply and remove sealant, noise reduction materials, and finishes.
  • Maintain shop facilities, equipment, and tooling; ensure cleanliness.

What you can expect as a Sheet Metal Technician at West Star:

As Sheet Metal Technician, each day will bring new experiences and opportunities for growth. You will need to have a basic to advancedknowledge of turbine aircraft structures, reading blueprints, working from drawings,fastening systems, procedures and techniques. You many also be required to help supervise crews and assist in organizing manpower and setting priorities for involved projects.

You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including:
  • Perform basic sheet metal operations such as drilling, riveting, cutting on airframe and associated components.
  • Application and removal of sealant, sound deadening and finish materials.
  • Maintenance, cleaning and repair of shop facilities, equipment and tooling when required.
  • Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance data bases.
  • Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English.
  • Any other job-related duties assigned by supervisor or management.
What you’ll need to bring with you:
Your Education:

A High school diploma or equivalent, and Airframe and Powerplant License is preferred. Avalid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.

Your Experience:

Prior experience working with sheet metal is preferred.

Your Initiative:

We’re looking for team players who are self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment where working under specific deadlines and time constraints will be common.

Your Sense of Responsibility:

Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments. Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work. Must have reliable transportation to get to work each day. Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines. Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties. Maintain customer-oriented work habits.

Physical Requirements:

Lifts 50 lbs. Routine walking, bending and squatting, or sitting. Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands. Climb ladders and stairs, work in small, restricted areas. Standing for long periods of time.

Mental Requirements:

Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines. Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation. Work with others in a professional manner.

Supervision:

Work under supervision of assigned Team Leader. May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations from very cold to very hot. Work outside during aircraft runs will occur. Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used:

Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic. Pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical equipment. Jacks, stands, lifts, and other support devices. Tugs, power carts, and other engine-powered equipment.

Compensation & Benefit Information

The following information is disclosed according to state specific requirements. If the position applied to is not in a state with these requirements, the following information may not apply. The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $22-$38. Actual hourly rate will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience and performance. Additional compensation in the form of a shift differential will be provided if the employee is assigned to an alternate shift. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package. Other forms of compensation include a semi-annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match and employer contribution to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
