Join our team as a Sheet Metal Operator!

Works in various areas of the shop to create prototype sheet metal utilizing lasers, press brakes, hardware insertion machines, and drills. The position will run multiple parts following standard operating and quality procedures. Ability to create quality parts in a timely and safe manner.

Monday to Friday 2pm to 10pm

What you will do
  • Operate lasers, press brakes, hardware insertion machines, and drills to produce sheet metal parts.
  • Load programs to the machines and change offsets if needed.
  • Have a basic understanding of blueprint reading and geometric tolerances as they relate to the finished part.
  • Perform thorough part inspections and make appropriate decisions relative to part quality requirements.
  • Ensure jobs run in a timely manner to secure on‑time delivery.
  • Adhere to all quality and safety standards within the department.
  • Follow all processes and procedures during the shift, escalating problem areas to the shift team lead/supervisor as appropriate.
  • Support daily production by identifying solutions for chronic issues and problems that cannot be resolved by production associates.
  • Maintain a neat and organized production area consistent with Protolabs housekeeping standards.
  • Work safely in accordance with Protolabs policies.
  • Be a self‑starter capable of handling a variety of tasks in a fast‑paced, multi‑tasking environment.
  • Complete operator PMs during the shift.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Office, SolidWorks, and CAD/CAM.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to use measuring instruments such as protractors, calipers, and height gauges.
  • Ability to interpret and explain written and statistical data.
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize work effectively.
  • Highly developed teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated confidentiality.
  • Ability to increase productivity and continuously improve methods, approaches, and departmental contributions while being cost‑sensitive.

$16.68 - $20 an hour

Protolabs offers a competitive total rewards package, and compensation mix varies based on position, such as base wage, as well as other earnings including incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, job function, work experience, specialized skills, training, education, and certifications.

Work Environment

Indoors (A/C); nonsmoking; the majority of this job function is performed in a manufacturing area exposed to machinery and noise; with eye protection and safety shoes required. Occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
