Job summary

National Steel and Shipbuilding Com currently has an opportunity in our Sheet Metal Shop in Norfolk, Virginia. We are seeking 10 Sheet Metal Mechanics (J1–J4) with five on Day Shift (0600-1445) and five on Second Shift (15:00–23:00).

Candidates must meet Journeyman 4 requirements, be able to read and interpret mechanical drawings, and have experience in shipboard HVAC, habitability layouts, and metal joiner installations.

Qualifications

• Must meet Journeyman 4 (Sheetmetal Mechanic) requirements.
• Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings for shipboard HVAC and habitability.
• Experience with MJ bulkheads, doors, berths and office outfitting.

We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Sheet Metal Shop. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for 10 Sheet Metal Mechanics J1 - J4. Five to work day shift & Five for Second Shift. Day Shift hours are 0600-1445 & 2nd Shift is 3pm - 11pm

GUIDELINES FOR SHEETMETAL MECHANIC

JOURNEYPERSON 4 (Sheetmetal Mechanic)

• Must meet all Journeyman 3 Sheetmetal Mechanic requirements.
• Must be able to read and interpret mechanical drawings, layout, fabricate, install, and repair sheet metal products related to shipboard construction HVAC and habitability and have an excellent knowledge of the various types of metals and size
• Excellent knowledge of Habitability layout and installation of metal joiner (MJ) bulkheads, MJ doors, berths, galleys and office outfitting.
• Operate press brake, hand brake, power rollers, hand rollers, general sheet metal fabrication equipment.
• Write WAFs and hot work tickets and perform trade quality assurance work, with little to no supervision.
