Job summary

University of Washington is seeking a Sheet Metal Mechanic on the Seattle campus. Based at the Health Science Building, the position executes journey-level fabrication, installation, alteration and repair of metal components for HVAC, architectural and structural systems. Typical schedule is Mon–Fri, 6:55 a.m.

to 3:25 p.m., full-time. The role collaborates with supervisors, other trades and campus partners to deliver safe, high-quality construction services, following blueprints and safety

Qualifications

Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a sheet metal mechanic; OR full journey status as a sheet metal mechanic in a union; OR four years’ applicable work experience.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license may be required.
Welding and cutting metals: SMAW, GMAW, GTAW are used as part of fabrication and repair work.

Responsibilities

Fabricate, install, modify, and repair diverse sheet metal components and systems.
Operate sheet metal fabrication equipment and related tools.
Coordinate work with leads, supervisors, and campus partners to ensure project scope and safety compliance.
Adhere to safety policies, SDS, PPE, and UW facilities procedures.
Read blueprints and specifications to meet mechanical system requirements.
