Job summary

ColonialWebb Contractors Company in Richmond, Virginia is seeking a Sheet Metal Mechanic to fabricate, assemble, and install sheet metal products including ductwork and fire dampers. An ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of the industry, safety regulations, and the ability to work from specifications. Qualifications

  • Strong sheet metal industry experience and knowledge.
  • Knowledge of International Mechanical Code (IMC), SMACNA and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Ability to work from drawings, submittals, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of basic construction/shop math.
  • Ability to work skillfully and safely with hands.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and willingness to work in a team.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including unscheduled overtime.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate sheet metal fabrication equipment.
  • Select gauge and type of sheet metal for fabrication.
  • Locate and mark dimensions per plans and specifications.
  • Layout, form up, and assemble custom fittings.
  • Assemble duct fittings according to specifications.
  • Install and fasten internal duct liner into ducts.
  • Set up and operate welding equipment to join parts.

Skills

Strong sheet metal industry experience and knowledge

Job description

Sheet Metal Mechanic-Fabrication

As Sheet Metal Mechanic, you will fabricate, assemble, and install sheet metal products and equipment, such as ductwork, plenums, fire dampers, and diffusers.

  • Hours: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, M-F.

A day in the life:
  • Safely operate sheet metal fabrication equipment which includes, press brakes, plasma cutting tables, roll forming equipment, coil line machines, and handbrakes.
  • Select gauge and type of sheet metal according to the product being fabricated.
  • Locate and mark dimensions per plans, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Layout, form up, and assemble canvas connectors and other custom fittings.
  • Assemble duct and duct fittings according to project specifications.
  • Install and fasten internal duct liner into duct and duct fittings.
  • Assemble duct joints along with laying out, cutting, and installing duct tape according to project specifications.
  • Set up and operate welding equipment to join sheet metal parts together.
You should have:
  • Strong sheet metal industry experience and knowledge.
  • Knowledge of International Mechanical Code (IMC), SMACNA and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Ability to work from drawings, submittals, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of basic construction/shop math (addition, subtraction, division, fraction, and multiplication).
  • Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Ability to work skillfully and safely with hands.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and willing to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including unscheduled overtime (nights and weekends).
