Qualifications

  • Experience with scheduling, outreach or program coordination is desirable.
  • Valid New York State driver license is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Shape Up NYC fitness and recreation programming citywide under the Director's guidance.
  • Manage fitness classes: scheduling between instructors and sites, updating databases, and producing progress reports.
  • Lead outreach and create content for Shape Up NYC's social media and outreach efforts.
  • Coordinate public events and private training sessions for fitness instructors.
  • Foster and manage community partnerships and site collaborations.
  • Gather feedback, photos and videos through site visits and check-ins.
  • Establish action plans, set goals and ensure deadlines are met.

Job description

Major Responsibilities
  • Under general direction of the Director of Citywide Fitness, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, coordinate Shape Up NYC fitness and recreation programming citywide.
  • Manage fitness classes, including scheduling between instructors and host sites, updating the website and Shape Up NYC's internal databases, and creating progress reports regularly.
  • Manage Shape Up NYC's outreach efforts, including leading an outreach strategy, outreach to instructors and creating content for Shape Up's social media.
  • Coordinate special public events and private training sessions for fitness instructors.
  • Manage community partnerships and host site collaboration.
  • Gather feedback, photos, and videos through regular site visits and check-ins.
  • Establish action plans, set goals and ensure deadlines are met.

Work Location: Arsenal North, Manhattan

Fees: Hired candidates will be subject to a processing fee between $40.00 to $101.00 based on the salary range of title. Hired candidates who are not currently employed by the City will be subject to a $104.50 background check fee.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
Preferred Skills
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in community outreach, communications, or marketing preferred.
  • Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and initiate and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid New York State driver license.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
