Job summary

G&W Electric Co. is seeking a Shakeout Operator to support the foundry and casting operations in a fast-paced production environment. You will assist molders, operate shaker units, and help maintain cleanliness and safety across the line.

The role requires basic reading of instructions in English, ability to work well in a team, and comprehension of safety procedures. This on-site position offers growth in a global manufacturing setting with standard production shifts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read and interpret simple work instructions in English.
  • Good communication with supervisor about manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain general shop housekeeping, clean/prepare molds and cores.
  • Assist molders with dumping poured molds into shaker unit.
  • Service green sand molding line as part of a team.
  • Move castings to grinding area and inspect for defects.
  • Document production quantities and ensure safe work environment.

Shakeout Operator
General Summary:

Performs a variety of duties to support foundry operations, production flow and safe operations

Essential Functions:
  • Maintain and perform housekeeping of general shop. This includes sweeping and shoveling sand, shaking out molds, knocking out cores, cleaning cores, loading and unloading various materials, placing jackets and weights on each mold
  • Assist molders with dumping the poured molds into the shaker unit.
  • Responsible for working together as a team to service the entire green sand molding line.
  • Move castings to the grinding area.
  • Use of a variety of hand tools including hammers, cold chisels and ,files.
  • Reports production quantities and items for each work order
  • Maintain safe a and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Conserve resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
  • Contribute to team effort by training others in performance of machine operator tasks as needed
  • Inspect all work for defects prior to passing it on to the next operation
  • Document actions by completing production and quality forms
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must be able to safely use small hand and power tools
  • Must be able to read and interpret work instructions in English and effectively communicate with supervisor regarding manufacturing processes.
  • Must have the ability to operate a variety of machinery
  • Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
Education/Experience:
  • High School diploma, GED, or combination of work experience and skill development required.
  • 6+ months of experience working in a manufacturing environment is desirable, experience in a foundry is preferred.
Physical Demands:

The work is classified as Medium – Heavy Physical Demand Level (PDL) by the US Dept of Labor’s Dictionary of Occupational Titles) Frequencies: Occasional (1-33%); Frequent (34-66%); Continuous (67-100%)

Lifting Demands:

  • Lift up to 50 lbs on an occasional basis floor to shoulder
  • Lift up to 25 lbs on a frequent basis floor to chest
  • Carry up to 50 lbs on an occasional basis up to 25 feet
