Job summary

G&W Electric Co in Blue Island, IL, is seeking a Machine Operator for the 5:00am to 1:30pm shift at MBAF Foundry. You will set up and operate designated machinery to produce cast components, while ensuring quality and a safe, efficient workspace.

You will read work orders, select patterns, prepare molds, and document production data. The ideal candidate has basic manufacturing experience, reliability, and a team-focused attitude committed to safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 months in a manufacturing environment desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions.
  • Ability to operate a variety of machinery with safety.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate one or two pieces of manufacturing machinery.
  • Select correct pattern for each order.
  • Prepare molds and repair mold impressions as needed.
  • Maintain safe, clean work area and follow procedures.
  • Train others in machine operator tasks as needed.
  • Inspect work for defects before passing to next operation.
  • Document production and quality actions and report quantities/times.

Machine Operator (5:00am to 1:30pm) MBAF Foundry

General Summary: Set- up and operate one-two pieces of manufacturing machinery of moderate complexity.

Essential Functions:

  • Set up and operate machinery using hand tools as necessary
  • Select correct pattern for each order
  • Prepares molds for drawing of patterns and repairing damage to mold impressions in sand as may be necessary
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Contribute to team effort by training others in performance of machine operator tasks as needed
  • Inspect all work for defects prior to passing it on to the next operation
  • Document actions by completing production and quality forms
  • Reports production quantities and times for each work order
  • Reports worn pattern equipment to supervisors

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to safety use small hand and power tools
  • Must be able to read and interpret work instructions and effectively communicate with supervisor regarding manufacturing processes
  • Must have ability to operate a variety of machinery

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma, GED or combination of work experience and skill development required
  • 6+ months experience working in a manufacturing environment desirable

Physical Demands: (The work is classified as Medium - Heavy Physical Demand Level (PDL) by the US Dept of Labor's Dictionary of Occupational Titles) Frequencies: Occasional (1-33%); Frequent (34-66%); Continuous (67-100%)

Lifting Demands

Lift up to 75 lbs on an occasional basis floor to waist with assistance

Lift up to 40 lbs on a frequent basis floor to chest

Carry up to 40 lbs on an occasional basis up to 25 feet

Postural Demands

Lifting - continuous

Griping, manipulation, fingering - frequent to continuous

Variable hand/power tool use - frequent

Two-person lifting tasks using assistive devices for lifting, pulling and pushing including hand trucks, pallet jacks, and hoists
