SGC Foodservice Shuttle Driver - Class A CDL

Job Summary or Purpose

CDL Class A Shuttle Drivers transport products between domicile yards and the distribution center.

Job Duties
  • Hook and unhook trailers from the tractor or converter dollies, including pushing, pulling, and cranking landing gear.
  • Load and unload trailers with or without mechanical equipment, with assistance as needed.
  • Perform frequent lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying of freight.
  • Secure shipments by tying down or bracing cargo.
  • Inspect trucks for defects and safe operating condition before, during, and after trips, and submit electronic reports.
  • Check shipping papers for load details and hazardous materials, ensuring proper documentation and placarding.
  • Drive to destinations in accordance with federal regulations, with periods of up to 11 hours of driving and 14 hours on-duty, followed by at least ten hours off-duty.
  • Apply knowledge of commercial driving and maneuvering skills in difficult situations.
  • Ensure all shipping documentation accompanies shipments and is available for inspection.
  • Maintain compliance records including logs, fuel records, and mileage.
  • Perform duties per company policies and all regulations for safe operation.
  • Report accidents, hazards, delays, or irregularities promptly.
Eligibility Requirements
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License for interstate commerce, with a minimum of 1 year driving experience and doubles endorsement.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (typically four points or less).
  • At least 1 year of tractor-trailer driving experience.
  • Ability to read, write, perform basic math, and handle receipts, maps, and logs.
  • Good oral communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions via phone or electronic logs.
  • Knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems.
  • Understanding of DOT regulations and safety standards.
  • Meet or exceed US DOT medical standards.
  • Satisfactory drug and alcohol test results.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit and remain alert for up to 11 hours of driving or 14 hours on duty.
  • Ability to shift manual transmission, operate foot pedals, and perform frequent physical tasks including lifting up to 250 pounds, squatting, crouching, bending, reaching, and climbing.
  • Ability to perform frequent loading/unloading activities and stand/walk for most of the day on various surfaces.
Work Environment
  • Primarily outdoors, exposed to environmental conditions.
  • Irregular schedules, weather extremes, long trips, overnight stays, and tight delivery schedules.
  • Exposure to noise and vibration levels during driving.
