Position description

The Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and San Francisco VA Health Care System (SFVAHCS) is seeking academic nephrologists with interest or expertise in clinical care, research or education in the Renal Section at SFVAHCS. The SFVAHCS Renal Section is one of three sites within the UCSF Nephrology Program.


The candidate will be appointed in the Adjunct, Health Sciences Clinical, Clinical X, or In Residence academic series at UCSF and report directly to the Renal Section Chief at SFVAHCS. The initial rank level and academic series of appointment will depend upon the candidate's qualifications, career interests and potential.


Qualified applicants will have a medical degree, current medical license and be board-certified or eligible in Nephrology. Regardless of interests, ideal candidates will have demonstrated excellent clinical acumen and skills.


Ideal clinician educator candidates will have demonstrated strong commitment and outstanding aptitude in medical education of medical students, residents and fellows.


Ideal clinician investigator candidates will have demonstrated exceptional aptitude for collaborative translational, clinical, health services or implementation science research, particularly in kidney and cardiovascular diseases. Ideal candidates will also show strong potential for obtaining extramural research funding. In addition to research, the ideal candidate will have shown excellence in teaching medical students, residents and fellows.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $110,500-$197,600. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.


For positions that are 49% effort or less:

See Table 2 for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $78,900-$141,100.
