Job summary

SC Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services seeks a Sex Offender Agent Trainee to learn the conditions, laws, and forms within the program under direct supervision. The role involves monitoring offender supervision and documenting compliance while gaining expertise in the SC Sex Offender Registry requirements and related treatment processes.

Ideal candidates will understand the offender cycle, identify risk indicators, and monitor progress using various treatment approaches.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree with at least 15 semester hours in social or behavioral science courses.
• An associate’s degree and two years of military or certified law enforcement experience may be substituted.
• Or a high school diploma and four years of military or certified law enforcement experience may be substituted.
• Preferred: obtain C-1 law enforcement certification within 1 year of employment (SC CJ Academy).

Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision, learn sex offender conditions, laws, restrictions and forms.
• Monitors and documents enforcement of non-sex offender supervision.
• Gains understanding of SC Sex Offender Registry requirements, proximity limits, treatment processes, and digital media use.
• Identifies red-flag behaviors associated with reoffending.
• Understands offense cycle to assess risk of acting out.
• Understands treatment methods to monitor progress.
