Job summary

Butler County in El Dorado, KS is hiring a Sewer Technician to perform routine and emergency maintenance of county sewer districts. You will inspect, repair, and log activities, with a county vehicle provided for after-hours callouts.

The role requires two years related experience or equivalent education, a valid CDL, and a Class I Wastewater Operator Certificate. Expect to work rotating on-call shifts and be part of a safety-conscious team.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily inspection and maintenance of sewer facilities and pumps.
  • Log activities, run preventative maintenance, and respond to alarms.
  • Repair equipment, pumps, belts, and motors; operate and maintain tools.
  • Take daily samples and deliver to lab for analysis as required.
  • Read blueprints and electrical schematics; perform safe, compliant work.
  • Work rotating on-call shifts and handle after-hours emergencies.

Salary Range: $20.41 To $28.58 Hourly

Position Summary : Under the supervision of the Assistant Public Works Director, the Sewer Technician performs skilled and semi-skilled work in daily maintenance activities of County sewer districts by performing daily inspections, daily maintenance, logging activities, responding to alarms on equipment. Performs daily maintenance activities, including preventative, routine, and emergency repairs. Performs routine and emergency maintenance. This position is provided a County vehicle to be taken home nightly for after-hours call out.

Examples of Work (Essential Functions) :
  • Follows safety rules;
  • Ensures wastewater facilities are operating properly includinglagoon;
  • Cleansorlubricatesvehicles,machinery,equipment,instruments,tools,workareas,andotherobjects, using hand tools, power tools, and cleaningequipment;
  • Removes snow and ice, overgrown grass, branches, trees at facility properties andgrounds;
  • Performs preventative, routine and emergency repairs, and maintenance to equipment andvehicles, pumps, belts, motors; lift stations; conduct inspections on a setschedule;
  • Cleans out manholes and repairs sewer lines, using appropriate personal protectivegear;
  • Ensures operation in accordance with established procedures including pulling of samples ona schedule and deliver to lab foranalysis;
  • Performs locates of sewer lines for OneCall;
  • Performsdailyrecordkeeping,includingadministeringthepreventativemaintenanceprogram,aswell as compiling data for monthly reports to Kansas Department of Health and Environment/Environmental Protection; record all repairs, tests on pumps and flowmeter recordings;
  • Monitors system and applies chemicals asneeded;
  • Reads and understands blue prints, shop drawings, and electrical controlschematics;
  • Operates and maintains a variety of hand and power tools, including, but not limited to:welders, machine shoptools;
  • Complies with safety policies, including appropriate safetyequipment;
  • Reports hazards that cannot be corrected under ordinarymaintenance;
  • Works rotating on call shifts as required, and responds promptly to after-hoursemergencies;
  • Performs unskilled manual work asassigned;
  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary or as required.

Required Education and/or Experience: Two years related experience, High School Diploma or G.E.D.; or Associate’s degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well after six months in the position.

Preferred Education and/or Experience : Three years related experience, High School Diploma or G.E.D.; or Associate’s degree and one year experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Accountability : Employee is not responsible for budgetary control of the department and does not participate in the annual department budget process.

Supervision : Supervision is provided and job related decisions are reviewed by the Assistant Public Works Director. Employee does not have supervisory responsibility over subordinate personnel.

Personal Relationships : Occasional contact with other county departments and frequent contact with the general public.

This position may be called out 24 hours a day or rotate being on call, including weekends and holidays.
