Sewer Systems Technician I — SCADA & CCTV Specialist

Job summary

The Town of Herndon, VA is seeking a skilled sewer systems technician to operate and maintain the SCADA and related infrastructure. You will collect flow, pressure and alarm data, perform CCTV inspections, and support maintenance contracts for the water/sewer division.

Responsibilities include maintaining meter stations, reporting results, and exercising safety protocols while on a on-call 24/7 basis. A high school diploma with sewer ops training and relevant certifications is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; vocational/technical training in sewer systems operation and maintenance.
• Experience with computers and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Flagging certification issued by the Virginia Department of Transportation, or ability to obtain within three months.
• Competent person training for trench safety and confined space entry within six months.
• Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement, or ability to obtain within twelve months.
• NASCCO PACP certification or ability to attain within twelve months.

Responsibilities

• Oversee SCADA system operation, maintenance, and alarm responses.
• Maintain video inspection equipment and recording devices.
• Perform televised inspections of sanitary and storm sewer lines.
• Operate light to heavy equipment and supervise daily vehicle maintenance.
• Prepare monthly sewer flow reports and CCTV inspection reports.
• Enforce safety regulations and conduct safety checks.
• Attend staff and safety meetings and trainings.
• Be available for on-call duties as assigned.
• Process work requests from other departments.
• Track workflows using the town CRM system.
• Perform snow and ice removal, plowing and traffic control.
• Participate in sewer maintenance work and pump station upkeep.
• Maintain meters and meter stations; calibrate meters and conduct quality checks.
• Wear steel-toed safety shoes; adhere to safety requirements.
• Performs other duties as required.
