Job summary

The City of Somerville is seeking a Working Foreman Special Heavy Motor Equipment Operator (SHMEO)/Sewer to lead a sewer maintenance crew and perform key construction, maintenance, and operation tasks. You will ensure safe, efficient work on mains, drains, and catch basins while following engineering blueprints and city standards.

Responsibilities include supervising crews, operating and maintaining heavy equipment, responding to emergencies, and overseeing safety practices.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and driver’s license.
• Experience supervising crews operating a public sewer/water system.
• Valid MA Class B license with air-brake and tank endorsements.
• Hoisting license 2B/4E and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Supervises sewer maintenance crew activities and safety.
• Operates and maintains equipment (front-end loaders, backhoes, etc.).
• Reads engineering blueprints and follows sewer system specs.
• Responds to emergencies and oversees relief operations.
• Oversees safety in work zones and ensures regulatory compliance.
