Job summary

City of St. Joseph is seeking an Equipment Operator II to operate and maintain municipal sewer maintenance equipment. You will perform tasks from heavy equipment operation to minor repairs, snow plowing, and barricade setup, on a schedule that includes on-call duties.

The role requires a High School diploma or equivalent, 1–3 years of related experience, and a valid Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement within 90 days. Expect physical work in varied conditions and potential leadership duties.

Qualifications

• Must safely operate sewer maintenance equipment and tools.
• Knowledge of carpentry, concrete work and shoring techniques.
• Ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision.
• On-call pager participation and emergency response readiness.
• Pending CDL-Tanker endorsement required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain dump trucks, backhoe, vacuum sewer cleaners, and other tools.
• Transport tools/equipment to job sites and perform general labor tasks.
• Construct forms and assist with concrete work and snow plowing.
• Locate utility lines and set up barricades for safety and traffic control.
• Maintain attendance and assist as crew leader when needed.
• Respond to emergencies and on-call requests as required.
