Job summary

The City of Wichita is seeking an Equipment Operator 1 in Sewer Maintenance to operate a variety of trucks and powered equipment, ensuring the safety and functionality of the City's sewer infrastructure. This role involves hands-on maintenance, construction tasks, and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Applicants must meet safety requirements, be able to lift 90 pounds, and be prepared for after-hours work.

Qualifications

• Must be able to operate heavy equipment and trucks with care and safety.
• Physically able to lift up to 90 pounds and work outdoors in varied weather.
• Must obtain and maintain a Kansas Commercial Pesticide Applicator certification (General Knowledge 9A or Category 5S).
• Must hold a valid Kansas Class B CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of trucks and powered equipment for sewer maintenance and related tasks.
• Perform minor servicing like refueling, lubrication, and adjustments; assist in loading/unloading materials.
• Locate and uncover buried manholes; assist in snow removal and equipment upkeep.
• Digs, mows, and maintains equipment used for flushing, rodding, and cleaning sanitary sewer lines.
• Work outdoors for long shifts, including nights or weekends as needed; follow safety procedures.
